N.I.C.K.E.D. Office is free for individuals, and it stays free whether or not you ever visit this page. Nothing is locked, limited or nagged out of you for not donating. If the software is useful to you and you would like to put something towards the people it is named for, this is how.
Where the money actually goes
After hosting costs and corporation tax, donations go towards their university tuition.
That sentence is worded carefully, because the honest version is less tidy than the slogan. Donations arrive as income to Consultancy in Action Ltd. The servers that host this site and deliver the installers are paid for out of that income, and corporation tax is due on what remains. What is left after both is what goes towards tuition. Anyone telling you that every pound of a donation reaches a student is not describing how a company bank account works.

There is no automatic receipt beyond PayPal's own, no supporter list, and no public total. A donation buys nothing and unlocks nothing — it is a gift, and it is treated as one.
If you would rather not
Then please just use the software. It was built to be genuinely free for individuals, and the most useful thing most people can do is install it, tell us where it breaks, and tell someone else it exists. Organisations are a different matter — for them a subscription is how this is funded, and over 100 people it is required.
